# OpenStreetMap

Distributions of OpenStreetMap vector geodata in cloud-native formats.

These datasets are "lossy" transformations of open source vector data from [planet.openstreetmap.org](planet.openstreetmap.org) and [Natural Earth](http://naturalearthdata.com).
Includes a subset of OSM features at Web Mercator zoom levels 0-15, organized into themes like `water`, `buildings` and `landuse`. The included features are documented at [Protomaps Basemap Layers](https://docs.protomaps.com/basemaps/layers).

## Tiles

`tiles/v3.pmtiles`: Latest basemap version. Mirrored daily from [maps.protomaps.com/builds](https://maps.protomaps.com/builds).

`tiles/v2/`: Version 2 of basemaps.

* Files can be viewed directly in Source Viewers.
* source.coop URLs can be viewed directly in the [PMTiles Viewer](https://protomaps.github.io/PMTiles/).
* Extract a spatial subset from the source.coop URL using the [pmtiles cli](https://docs.protomaps.com/pmtiles/cli#extract).

## Limitations

Limitations

* We don't recommend cross-origin hotlinking directly to source.coop URLs.
* Data reflects OpenStreetMap as of that day.
